About Me
I’m Shaista – a baby and family photographer based in Northwood, London, helping families celebrate life’s sweet little milestones.
Cake smashes are such a fun way to mark a birthday or special moment, and I love capturing the laughter, curiosity, and mess that comes with it! With over fifteen years of experience behind the camera, I’ve learned how to keep things light, relaxed, and full of joy – even when icing is flying.
Families visit me from across London, Watford, and the surrounding areas to mark this happy stage with playful, personality-filled portraits in my cosy Northwood studio.
Many of my cake smash families first visited me for a newborn photography session in London – it’s lovely to watch little ones grow.

What to Expect
Cake smash sessions are fun, relaxed, and full of personality. They’re a great way to celebrate a milestone with a little bit of chaos, a lot of laughter, and plenty of cake-covered smiles.
Sessions take place in my cosy home studio in Northwood, where everything will be set up and ready to go. We’ll start with a few clean, classic portraits before bringing out the cake — creating a lovely mix of images, from sweet to silly.
Whether there’s joyful mess or quiet curiosity, we’ll follow their lead and capture the story as it unfolds. If you’d like to add a mini bath splash at the end, it’s a great way to clean up and capture even more adorable moments.
After your session, you’ll receive a private online gallery within 7 days to view your images and choose your favourites — no pressure, just happy memories, beautifully preserved.
The process + How it works
Before the Session
Once your cake smash session is booked, I’ll be in touch with a short questionnaire to plan the details including colours for your custom balloon garland.
You’ll need to bring your own cake (for health and safety reasons), but don’t worry if you’re not sure where to start — I can recommend local bakers and supermarket options that many of my clients love.
We usually begin with clean portraits, so you’re welcome to bring a special outfit for that part of the session. For the cake smash itself, I have a selection of birthday outfits available, or you’re more than welcome to bring your own.
Day of the Session
When you arrive at the studio, everything will be set up and ready to go — including your chosen balloon garland. My Northwood studio is cosy, calm, and designed to keep the experience fun and stress-free for both you and your baby.
We’ll start with a few clean portraits before moving on to the cake. Then comes the messy part — full of smiles, curious pokes, and icing-covered fingers! If you’ve chosen to include a bath splash at the end, it’s a great way to wrap things up and capture even more adorable moments.
The session typically lasts around 60 minutes, with time built in for outfit changes and a relaxed pace that suits your little one. Just bring your cake and a change of clothes — and get ready for some sweet, memorable fun.
After your Session
Within 7 days of your session, you’ll receive a link to your private online viewing gallery. This is where you’ll see all the fun, expressive, and joy-filled images from the day — cake-covered smiles, curious looks, and those little moments in between.
You’ll be able to select your favourite images to keep, and decide how you’d like to enjoy them — whether that’s digitally, in print, or as part of a lasting keepsake.
Only the images you choose will be professionally edited. Unedited images are not available for purchase or release, as each final photo reflects the care and attention behind my work. There’s no pressure — just sweet memories, ready to be shared, printed, and treasured.
Services and Prices
To book your cake smash session, a signed booking form and £150 session fee (+£50 for weekends) are required. This non-refundable fee includes studio time, use of a custom balloon garland in colours of your choice and a private online viewing gallery.
